IELTS – International English Language Testing System
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally accepted English proficiency test designed for international education and migration. It measures the language skills of non-native English speakers who plan to study or move to countries where English is the primary mode of communication.
Since its inception in 1989, IELTS has become the most popular English language assessment worldwide. Created by top language experts, the test assesses your abilities in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as your capacity to effectively use English for studying, working, and living in an English-speaking environment.
IELTS is one of the most widely trusted English proficiency tests worldwide, recognized by over 10,000 organizations globally. Its certification is accepted in countries such as the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Europe, and more than 140 others. Academic institutions, companies, professional bodies, and government organizations acknowledge the IELTS certification. It is regarded as the benchmark for English language testing, applicable for both academic and immigration purposes. The test evaluates a candidate’s reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities and is available year-round at over 1,600 centers in more than 140 countries.
There are three types of IELTS Exam:
IELTS Academic Test
The IELTS Academic Test evaluates your English language abilities to determine if they meet the standards required for international academic proficiency. It is ideal for students seeking to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies in an English-speaking environment, as well as those looking to relocate for professional registration.
IELTS General Test
The IELTS General Test assesses whether you have the necessary language skills for workplace & social interactions. It is suitable for individuals migrating to Australia, Canada, and the UK, as well as those applying for secondary training programs or seeking work experience in English-speaking environments.
IELTS for UKVI
IELTS for UKVI is identical to the standard IELTS test but is recognized as a government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT). Students who need to demonstrate their English language proficiency for UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) applications can choose the IELTS UKVI test format.
IELTS TEST FORMAT
The IELTS exam is available in both online (Computer-delivered IELTS) and offline (paper-based IELTS) formats, with the same exam structure for both. The listening and speaking sections are identical for both Academic and General Training, while the writing and reading sections have slight variations between the two formats.
